Leo Tolstoy quotes

1828–1910 · Yasnaya Polyana, Russia

• Love hinders death. Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone.

• But believe me, my dear boy, there is nothing stronger than those two: patience and time, they will do it all.

• …so many men, so many minds, certainly so many hearts, so many kinds of love.

• Now I say that I know the meaning of my life: ‘To live for God, for my soul.’ And this meaning, in spite of its clearness, is mysterious and marvelous.

• Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.
