About this quote
From Poe's story "The Visionary" (later retitled "The Assignation") in Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque, Volume II (Philadelphia: Lea and Blanchard, 1840, copyright 1839). The line is spoken by a character, the eccentric host who laughs at the narrator's astonishment at his apartment. Poe wrote it, but it is not Poe speaking in his own voice.
