About this quote
From the Apology for Raimond Sebond (Book II, chapter 12 in Charles Cotton's translation, revised by W. C. Hazlitt, 1877). Montaigne is writing about people who make gods of men. Montaigne wrote in French, so this is the translator's wording. It comes right after the story of Agesilaus and the Thracians, who told him they had made him a god.
