About this quote
Attributed to the Buddha, Dhammapada verse 5 (Muller translation, 1881). The Dhammapada is a collection of verses from the Pali canon. The Buddha wrote nothing himself, and the collection credits the teaching to him. The popular "Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love" is a looser wording of this verse.
