By Fyodor Dostoevsky
For know, dear ones, that every one of us is undoubtedly responsible for all men and everything on earth, not merely through the general sinfulness of creation, but each one personally for all mankind and every individual man.

About this quote
From The Brothers Karamazov (Book Four, Chapter 1, 'Father Ferapont'), in Constance Garnett's English translation. Spoken by the elder Father Zossima, near the end of his life, to the monks gathered in his cell. It is a character's words, not Dostoevsky speaking in his own voice. Dostoevsky wrote in Russian, so this is the translator's wording.
